Lucio dove vai?

American Art Catalogues presents Lucio dove vai?, a new graphic novel by Italian artist Dario Guccio. On the occasion of the publication, ten original drawings from the publication will be presented from June 12 – July 11, 2025.

Lucio dove vai? is centered on simple gestures, everyday situations, and silences. The narrative follows the measured pace and concreteness typical of Italian neorealism, emphasizing time and detail. The use of black and white as an expressive choice engages with the aesthetics of Gekiga, a Japanese movement that emerged in the late 1950s and redefined comics as a medium to portray daily life in a direct, unfiltered way. Within this realistic framework, occasional dreamlike elements arise, shifting the narrative toward the fringes of magical realism.

Dario Guccio (Milan, 1988) is an artist who attended the Painting program at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited in various galleries and institutions in Italy and abroad, including the GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan (2014), the 16th Quadriennale d’Arte at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (2016), and the KWM Art Center in Beijing (2020).

In 2019, he co-founded and curated Frankenstein Magazine, a self-published magazine with a strong focus on comics, which received the Micheluzzi Award for Best Self-Publication in 2022.
