Idler
American Art Catalogues is pleased to present Idler, the first publication on the Japanese-Mongolian painter Arisa Yoshioka, and a corresponding presentation of works by the artist.
Arisa Yoshioka was born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in 2000 and is now based in Tokyo. A self-taught artist, many of her works draw on her own memories as a child growing up in post-Soviet Mongolia and the experiences that have shaped her life. Rendered in a distinct woody palette, her paintings fuse tragedy with dreamlike imagery, revealing a unique visual imagination.
The publication brings together 30 paintings completed between 2021 and 2023. It features a new text by the artist in which she describes her experiences growing up in Ulaanbaatar and her path to becoming an artist. Developed in close collaboration with the artist, several works from Idler will be on display at American Art Catalogues' West Village space, alongside new drawings from March 21st through April 21st.
Arisa Yoshioka has had solo exhibitions at American Art Catalogues, New York (2024), 15 Orient, New York (2023). Her work was included in the group exhibition Time: organized by Ryan Steadman at Pablo's Birthday, New York (2023).
